A green getaway – Sustainable practices at our Bromley Hotel

Many of us are looking for ways to be kinder to the planet, both at home and away. Hotels can be notoriously uneco-friendly, with luxury and convenience prioritised over sustainability. But as more travellers are looking for green options, Brama is on a mission to show that it is possible to have the best of both worlds, delivering all the creature comforts and thoughtful touches to elevate your stay without compromising on sustainability. Let’s dig in to why you can enjoy your time at Brama safe in the knowledge it isn’t costing the earth.

Breathing life into an old landmark

Brama is situated in the beautiful Old Town Hall in Bromley, a Grade II listed building that had stood unloved for years and had been placed on the ‘Heritage at Risk’ register. It has been painstakingly restored, reviving an important local landmark and retaining many beautiful original features. In the redesign, we’ve improved elements such as insulation, glazing, and lighting, and we are proud to have taken such a wonderful building and saved it from ruin so that it can be enjoyed for many years to come.

Single use plastics

A staggering one million plastic bottles are sold every minute worldwide, many of them destined for just one brief use before being discarded. Brama has opted out of this environmentally catastrophic practice altogether. None of our bottled water comes in single use plastic, our toiletries are presented in reusable dispensers, and we look to buy essential supplies with as little plastic packaging as possible.

Water and energy use

The hotel is powered by 100% renewable electricity, and most light fittings use energy-efficient LED bulbs. We’ve installed toilets and showers that use water efficiently without compromising on performance, and we give our guests the option to reuse their towels or opt out of daily room cleanings if they wish. We try to keep food waste to an absolute minimum and recycle as much as we can, providing recycling bins for guests as well.

Carefully sourced products

In our rooms and throughout the hotel, we showcase products from suppliers that take sustainability seriously. Our Bramley toiletries are made in the UK with natural ingredients, our coffee comes from London’s first carbon-negative roasters, Kiss The Hippo, and our bedding comes from The Fine Cotton Company, made from gorgeous organic cotton that is cruelty—and chemical-free. Guests can enjoy all aspects of their stay knowing that care and thought have gone into the products they use.

Eco-conscious neighbours

We share the building with some great neighbours who are also committed to sustainability. Clockwise, a beautifully designed coworking space, prioritises planet-friendly practices in its spaces and offers a range of work spaces and meeting rooms. Dorothy and Marshall is an all-day dining venue with exciting menus that prioritise and showcase local ingredients, offering the perfect spot for everything from a quick coffee to a lavish celebratory dinner. Brama guests can enjoy discounts in both venues, find out more on our Neighbours page.
